2nd Grade - April 2026

April has been a busy and exciting month in second grade!

In math, we have been working hard on subtracting two-digit numbers, including learning how to “borrow” (regroup). This has been a big step in our learning, and students are building confidence and showing great perseverance as they tackle these more challenging problems. It has been especially rewarding to watch them use strategies we’ve practiced and begin solving problems more independently. As we work through these concepts, we are also reminded that math reflects the order and consistency God created in our world.

We also explored different forms of measurement. Students practiced measuring length using standard units and began thinking about why we use different tools to measure different things. Through hands-on activities, they were able to see how measurement is used in everyday life, from the classroom to home, and how God has given us a world that can be observed, understood, and explored.

In science, our class has been learning all about space! We’ve been discussing planets, stars, and other fascinating objects in our solar system. Students have been especially curious about how space works, asking thoughtful questions and sharing what they already know. These conversations have led to great discussions and a deeper appreciation for the vast and incredible creation God has made. It has been exciting to see their sense of wonder grow as they learn more each day.

In social studies, we have been studying civil rights and the suffrage movement. Students learned about the importance of fairness and equality, as well as the individuals who worked to bring about positive change. One highlight this month was participating in the local suffragette walk here in Boone, which helped students make a meaningful connection between what they are learning and our own community. It was a special opportunity to see history come to life in a tangible way. Students showed great respect and curiosity as they engaged with these important topics.

We give thanks to God for this wonderful season of learning and growth and the joy of sharing it together.
