This month in 3rd and 4th grade we are about halfway through our second book club. We are also starting some new language arts rotations that incorporate more games and play for learning as well as fun worksheets such as "spin and write" and "sentence wars". We have started working on our second opinion writing. 3rd graders have to decide if they like playing inside or outside better. 4th graders have to decide if they would rather stay at school longer and have no homework or have a shorter school day but have homework. We love using details to support our thoughts and opinions. Our last BINGO sheet of the year is ALL free choice! They can read any five books they want as long as they haven't read them this year already. We are reviewing what we have learned about nouns, verbs, and adjectives as well as correcting some of our own writing mistakes as an example of proof reading. We also love writing our own MadLibs. We just started learning about similes and metaphors and are going to be looking for them in poetry as well as writing some of our own.
In Science we are learning about the earth. We are finishing up learning about the oceans and are excited to start learning about space.
In Social Studies, we started our end of the year project on the states. Each student picked a state that they wanted to learn more about and they have a set of required information that they have to present about each state. They are trying to convince me that I should visit their state before all of the others, so they are finding all of the good places and activities.
We started coding with Mr. Z from the library and are looking forward to continuing to learn from him.
In Religion, we are learning about Lent and about the events that led up to Jesus dying on the cross.
We can't believe it's the last quarter already and are looking forward to what God has in store for us.
