1st Grade - September 2025

Our first graders have been busy learning, exploring, and discovering God’s world in so many exciting ways!

In reading, we are diving into stories about libraries. We’ve learned that there are many kinds of libraries—from large public libraries to small classroom libraries—and even mobile libraries that bring books to people who can’t easily visit a library building. The children are loving the chance to see how reading can happen anywher!

In math, we are working hard with our numbers up to 20. We’ve been practicing how to count, compare, and order numbers, and now we are beginning to explore the basics of addition. It’s wonderful to see students excited when they discover that numbers can work together to make new numbers!

In science, we are focusing on what it means to be a scientist. We’ve learned that science is the study of God’s amazing creation, and we are practicing how to observe, ask questions, and think carefully about the world around us. First graders are natural wonderers, and they are quickly realizing that scientists are people who notice and explore!

In social studies, we’ve been learning about community helpers and the important roles they play in keeping our community safe and strong. One of the highlights was visiting the police station and the library, where the children had the opportunity to meet real helpers in action. Experiences like these remind us that God gives us people in our community to serve and care for one another. First grade is an exciting place to be, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and see God’s hand in all that we do each day!
