5th & 6th Grade - February 2026

February has been a month of steady growth, meaningful learning, and a few memorable adventures along the way.

In English, students have been sharpening their skills with adverbs and prepositional phrases, learning how these tools add clarity and detail to their writing. It has been encouraging to see them grow more intentional as they recognize these patterns in their own work.

In Reading, both classes continue powerful historical journeys. Fifth grade is studying the Civil War through The Boys’ War by Jim Murphy, sparking thoughtful discussions about courage and sacrifice. Sixth grade remains captivated by Shipwrecked at the Bottom of the World, reflecting on the endurance and leadership shown during Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition.

In Math, students have strengthened their understanding of fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing—while applying these skills to real-life situations. We are now moving into equations and decimals, continuing to build strong problem-solving skills and recognize the order reflected in God’s creation.

In Social Studies, students have been studying Merle Hay, the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and World War I.

In Religion, we have been studying the books of the Bible and how the Old and New Testaments fit together in God’s plan of salvation. Students are growing more confident in navigating Scripture on their own.

Rehearsals for Seussical Jr. continue to bring energy and enthusiasm to our days. Earlier this month, several 5th and 6th graders participated in choir tour to Seward, Nebraska, sharing their music and representing our school beautifully.

In P.E., students have been focusing on hand stick and regular hockey, building on the excitement from our all-school ice skating trip and celebrating the recent success of USA Olympic hockey.

February may be one of the shortest months, but it has been full in all the best ways. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
