In 1st grade, we have been busy learning and growing while giving thanks to God for all He has created. In reading, we are learning about the special features God has given animals to help them survive. We have enjoyed studying seahorses, ants, vervet monkeys, bees, and elephants, and noticing how each animal is uniquely designed by God for a purpose.
In math, we have been learning how to tell time to the hour and half-hour. We have also talked about how keeping a schedule helps us stay organized and take responsibility for our day. In science, we are beginning an exciting unit on the human body, learning about how God created our bodies to work together in amazing ways. In social studies, we are learning about American history and how our country began.
Outside the classroom, we have loved playing in the snow piles at recess and enjoying God’s winter creation. We celebrated the true meaning of Christmas during our Christmas Service, sharing the good news of Jesus’ birth. We also took a couple of virtual field trips. One trip took us to London, where we learned about Christmas traditions, visited Big Ben, Birmingham Castle, Tower Bridge, and enjoyed a tour of the beautiful Christmas lights. Our second virtual trip brought us to Israel, where we learned about Jesus’ birth and how His family escaped to Egypt. It has been a great time in 1st grade this month!
