1st Grade - October 2026
First grade has settled into our classroom routines, and the students are showing great excitement as they learn new things! Each day, we practice our memory work and spend time in God’s Word, learning more about His love, His promises, and what He teaches us. It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence as they take on new challenges.
In math, we have been learning about place value, building a foundation for adding larger numbers. We even enjoyed an afternoon outside using objects around us to explore greater than and less than. Phonics has also been a blast as students apply new rules and grow more confident in their reading and spelling skills. Our current unit focuses on bonus letters, such as the double l in the word “fall.”
In science, we continue exploring what it means to be a scientist as we discover more about the wonderful world God created. This connects with our social studies lessons as we learn about different cultures, recognizing similarities and differences among people. We are reminded that God has created each of us uniquely and that every person is loved by Him.
In ELA, we are building stronger writing skills as we learn about sentence structure and the differences between nouns and pronouns. Soon, we will begin adding more details to our sentences as we practice writing each day. It has been exciting to see students grow more comfortable expressing their thoughts through writing.
Through all our learning, we continue to grow in our understanding of God’s Word, use the gifts He has given us, and share Christ’s love with those around us.
