1st Grade - September 2026
First grade is in the full swing of school! The students have been doing a wonderful job settling into routines, reviewing skills from Kindergarten, and building confidence as they begin working with new and tougher concepts.
In Phonics, we are reviewing CVC words and practicing how to blend sounds together as we work on fluency. The students are growing in their ability to listen for sounds, read words smoothly, and become more confident readers. It has been fun to see their excitement as they recognize words and begin to read with more independence.
In Math, we continue to work with addition facts and use manipulatives to help us understand what addition means. Hands-on practice gives students a chance to see, move, and build numbers as they learn. We also talk about how math points us to an ordered world that God created, reminding us that He is the Creator of all things.
In Science, we are exploring what it means to be a scientist from a Biblical worldview. We are learning to observe God’s creation carefully and experience the world through our senses. First graders continue to show curiosity, excitement, and joy as they learn more about the world God has made.
