2nd Grade - January 2024

I am most grateful for the opportunity God has given me to share Jesus’ amazing love with the students at Trinity and their families. It is such a blessing to share God’s great love, forgiveness, and saving grace through Jesus, our Lord and Savior, daily with our students. Here at Trinity, we educate for eternity!

We are extremely grateful to our congregation and the parents of our students for the opportunity to share God’s grace and mercy while providing spiritual education to prepare the next generation of faithful Christian servants.

We had so much fun reading Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann. Officer Buckle knows more about safety than anyone, but when he tries to share his safety tips at schools, nobody listens—until the police department gets a dog named Gloria. Gloria has her own silly way of demonstrating safety tips, and together, Officer Buckle and Gloria make a terrific team. This fun and informative book is one that shouldn’t be missed.

In Science, we’ve been learning about forces. We know that forces can be balanced or unbalanced. Balanced forces keep objects still, while unbalanced forces make objects move. A force is a push or pull that causes movement. We had fun experimenting with pushing (moving something away) and pulling (moving something toward us). We also learned about gravity as a force that pulls things down to Earth.

Our favorite topic, however, was magnetism—a force that pulls metals toward a magnet. Experimenting with magnets was so much fun! We even worked with partners to create our own mazes, using a magnet to guide our “bug” through the maze.

We also studied electric circuits and experimented with creating one using wire, a battery, and a light bulb. Of course, we talked about safety when working with electricity as well.

The cold temperatures have kept us indoors for several recesses, but the boys have enjoyed building with Legos, while the girls have been drawing and playing school, taking turns being the teacher. It’s a joy watching them play together and enjoy each other’s company.

We’ve had many opportunities to work together and have discovered that we really enjoy, respect, and like each other. This class of second graders is truly a blessing!
