This October, second grade had a blast learning about communities in social studies. We have researched how different communities have changed over time. We visited Living History Farms to learn more about how different communities looked over the course of history.
In Math, we have learned about telling time, counting by 5’s and 10’s, more and less, and greater than and less than.
In Science, we have been exploring what matter is and also using our engineering skills to build ramps. We rolled pumpkins down the ramp, measured how far they went, and observed how changing the ramp length affected how far the pumpkins rolled.
We had a recent visit from some rescued kittens, and we learned what it means to be a good Samaritan.
In ELA, we have been discovering the important parts of a sentence in Unit One. We just started unit two, and we are learning how to write a personal narrative and which important details to include. In phonics, we are learning about vowel teams. For spelling, we are starting list 7, where we are practicing words that use a_e, ai, and ay.
In art, we have worked on several projects, including drawing squirrels and giving them a cozy home in watercolor leaves.
