September has been full of learning and excitement in our classroom! In Phonics and English, we practiced digraphs such as sh, th, ch, and wh. We also worked on building “juicy sentences” to make our writing more interesting, tried out some journal prompts, and learned how to use punctuation correctly. For Reading, we enjoyed diving into "Little House in the Big Woods" and discussing what life was like long ago.
In Math, students practiced adding three-digit numbers using both ten frames and number lines to help them visualize their thinking. In Science, we explored temperature, learned about scientists’ different worldviews, and observed the life cycle of butterflies. Our Social Studies lessons took us to France, where we are preparing to meet with a missionary, and we also studied U.S. states and practiced reading maps.
We have also been working hard on handwriting, focusing on writing neatly and legibly. In STEM, students had a blast building with fruit snacks during our Iggy Peck, Architect activity and coding robots with Code for Joy. In Art, we learned about the work of Georgia O’Keeffe and created artwork inspired by her beautiful floral paintings.
It’s been a wonderful start to the school year, and we’re looking forward to more learning adventures in October!
