April has been a fun and joyful month in our classroom! We began by celebrating Easter with our families and enjoyed a fantastic Easter party, thanks to our wonderful room parents. Our third graders also took the stage in Seussical and did an outstanding job performing their roles—it was such a delight to see their hard work shine.
Students also completed the ISAP test for the first time this month. I was so impressed with their focus, perseverance, and positive attitudes throughout the process. In Religion, we studied the sacraments as we focused on the purpose of Christ’s coming – for our forgiveness and salvation. We looked at the early days of Jesus's ministry, when he was baptized, and the later days of his ministry on earth, when he instituted the Lord’s Supper and gave his body and blood on the cross for our redemption from sin. We looked at the liturgical arts and how they are used to share the message of God‘s Word. This unit helped us understand the importance of recognizing the blessings of these sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper), as God comes to us and blesses us through these Means of Grace throughout our whole lives.
In English, students have been developing their writing skills by creating original stories using prompts and their imaginations. We also introduced playwriting, and each student wrote and performed their own play for the class. This was a fun, creative, and confidence-building experience for everyone!
In Reading, we finished Emma’s Rug by Allen Say and Alvin Ailey by Andrea Davis Pinkney. We are currently reading A River of Words by Jen Bryant as we explore poetry and its role in enhancing storytelling.
In Math, we completed our geometry unit on lines and angles, and have now moved on to working with money. Students are learning to count, add, and subtract money while making real-world connections.
In Science, we are wrapping up our unit on mammals, where students learned about life cycles and the characteristics of warm- and cold-blooded animals. Next, we will begin our study of ecosystems.
Looking ahead to May, we are excited for our upcoming field trip to the train station for a third-grade train ride. The students are eagerly anticipating this special end-of-year experience!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support at home and at school.
