3rd Grade - March 2026

March has been a busy and exciting month for our third graders! We kicked off the month with a wonderful field trip—We went to see the Peking Acrobats and then to the ISU Seed Lab. Since we had just finished our plant unit, it was especially meaningful to see how scientists determine which seeds are healthy and ready for planting. We also enjoyed a refreshing spring break, taking time to appreciate God’s beautiful creation, and celebrated two special birthdays in our classroom.

In Religion, we are learning that worship is what God does for us—He serves us. We studied confession and absolution, and how the Law shows our sin while the Gospel shows our Savior—Jesus, who took away the punishment for all sin. We also discussed contrition and repentance, trusting in God’s forgiveness, and living changed lives. Students learned how God uses pastors to serve His people, how the Divine Service centers on God’s Word, and how the church year, paraments, and hymns all point us to Jesus.

In English, students have been working hard on writing their own narratives, focusing on strong introductions, meaningful details, and staying on topic throughout their stories. In Reading, we enjoyed The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco, which sparked meaningful discussions about special items in our own families and the memories they hold.

In Math, we wrapped up our fraction unit and have now begun learning about division, exploring what it means and how it applies to real-world situations. In Science, students are studying reptiles and amphibians, the differences between warm- and cold-blooded animals, and the life cycles of reptiles.

In Social Studies, we are learning about different types of communities and how people live and work together. Through each of these subjects, students continue to grow in their understanding of the world around them and the ways God has uniquely designed it.

We are thankful for the many opportunities our students have to learn, grow, and be reminded of God’s love each day. It has been a joy to watch them develop both academically and in their faith as we continue this school year together.
