February has been an amazing month in third grade! We had a wonderful time celebrating our 100th Day of School and enjoying our Valentine’s Day party. The students have been busy learning, growing, and having fun together.
In religion, we have been discussing prayer as a major part of each 3rd graders faith walk. We discussed how we pray in many forms, for many reasons, in many places, yet prayer is simply talking to God. As we share our hopes, wants, needs; as we thank and praise God; and as we confess our sins, we talk with our Heavenly Father, who loves us. We know, God promises always to hear and answer our prayer. Sometimes He says no, sometimes yes, sometimes wait. But we learned, He always acts for our good and the good of his people and his world. Through God’s Word, sharing with us in the Bible, in teaching and preaching, and through the sacraments, God shares His love and grace in Christ Jesus, our Savior. He empowers and strengthens us to believe in Jesus and pray in His name.
In English, we finished our unit on subject and object pronouns. We are now beginning a unit on narrative writing, and students are excited to start writing their own narratives in class. In reading, we are studying Coming to America: The Story of Immigration by Betsy Maestro, illustrated by Susannah Ryan. We are learning about what people experienced and why they traveled to Ellis Island in search of freedom and opportunity.
We have wrapped up our fractions unit and are now moving into multiplication, where students will learn to apply their skills to real-world situations. In science, we completed our plant unit and will be starting a new unit on warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals.
We have some exciting field trips coming up in March!
A trip to Ames to see the Peking Acrobats
A visit to the Iowa State University Seed Lab
A trip to Des Moines to watch a play and visit the Sculpture Garden
I am so excited to see what the rest of this year has in store for our third graders. Thank you for your continued support at home—it truly makes a difference!
