January has been a wonderful month in our classroom, and it has been such a blessing to begin the new year growing together in both faith and learning.
In Religion, students are learning that we cannot please God by keeping the law on our own (Gal. 3:10). We studied who Jesus is—true God and true man—and what He has done for our salvation. Out of God’s eternal love, Jesus became our substitute, taking our place so that through Him we have forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
IIn English, we have been working on important grammar and writing conventions, including capitalizing proper nouns and abbreviations, correctly formatting book titles, and using commas and quotation marks. These foundational skills are essential for clear and effective communication.
Reading, we are studying Grandfather’s Journey and learning about point of view. Students are discovering how the narrator’s perspective influences how a story is told and how it helps readers better understand events and characters’ emotions.
Math, we have completed our unit on telling time, including half past, quarter to, and quarter after. Students worked hard to master these skills and apply them to real-life situations. Students are now learning to identify and compare cups, pints, quarts, gallons, inches, and feet. This unit helps connect math to everyday experiences and strengthens problem-solving skills.
Science, we wrapped up our unit on cells and are now learning about the plant's life cycle. Students are discovering how plants grow and survive, and how this process connects to God’s amazing design in creation.
We have also completed an exciting long-term project — the Wax Museum. Each student selected a historical figure to research and is writing a paper about that individual’s life and accomplishments. After completing their research, students created a tri-fold display and presented their historical figure to others. I loved seeing the students’ hard work come together and watching them share their learning with our school community.
