3rd Grade - October 2025

Our third graders had the wonderful opportunity to lead chapel this month! Our theme was “Salvation is a free gift from God—not something we can earn,” based on Ephesians 2:8-9. We shared with joy that we are saved by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ. As we studied Martin Luther, we learned how he discovered, through God’s Word, that salvation comes only through faith—not by works—and how the Holy Spirit helps us live out that faith each day.

In Phonics, we practiced adding both vowel and consonant suffixes to base words, while in English, we studied nouns—common and proper, singular and plural, and even possessive forms. We’ve been busy readers and writers, growing in our ability to express ideas clearly and confidently. Our reading adventures took us under the sea to explore fascinating creatures like octopuses, sharks, and giant squids. We also read about Jacques Cousteau and how his curiosity led to amazing underwater discoveries.

In math, we’ve been working with estimating two- and three-digit numbers and checking our subtraction using addition equations. We are becoming confident problem solvers who use the gifts God has given us to think and reason well. We’ve also begun our journey into cursive handwriting—some letters are tricky, but we’re improving every day and enjoying seeing our words take on a new, flowing style.

In science, we began a unit on soil—learning about topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock—and even made tasty soil treats to help us remember each layer. We were also blessed to welcome Meteorologist Zane Satre from KCCI! He taught us how meteorologists study weather and how God controls His creation, just as Genesis 8:22 reminds us. A highlight of the month was our field trip to Chester Park, where we explored wetlands, plains, and forest habitats—discovering animal life and the beauty of God’s world all around us.

Every day in third grade, we learn with and from one another, growing not just in knowledge but also in faith. We see how God uses each of us to encourage, help, and build one another up. What a blessing it is to learn in a place where Christ’s love shines in all we do!
