3rd Grade - October 2026
October has been an amazing month in third grade! We enjoyed our first field trip of the school year, exploring agriculture and learning more about farming at the Boone County Fairgrounds. We also welcomed some special animal visitors into our classroom, including a kitten and a dog! The students have loved making memories together, and we are already looking forward to our November field trip to Des Moines for hockey. In the classroom, students have been working hard and building new skills. In phonics, we have been practicing words that sound alike, dividing words into syllables, and learning about the schwa sound to strengthen our reading and spelling. In English, we have been exploring nouns, including how to make them plural and use possessive nouns correctly. Our reading time has been spent enjoying The One and Only Ivan, which has led to meaningful conversations about kindness, empathy, and treating others with compassion and respect.
In math, we have completed our subtraction unit and moved on to graphing. Students are learning how to organize, read, and interpret data using different types of graphs. In science, we have been exploring weather patterns and the different types of weather we experience. Our social studies lessons have taken us to Africa, where we are learning about the continent and its different climate zones.
In Religion, we have been practicing how to find Bible verses and memorizing the days of God's creation. These lessons help us grow in our understanding of God's Word and appreciate the wonderful world He has made.
Thank you to our third-grade families for your continued support! I am so thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside your children each day. We look forward to another month filled with learning, laughter, and special memories together!
