5th & 6th Grade - December 2025

December has been a busy and joyful blur in our classroom as we wrapped up the second quarter and prepared our hearts for Christmas. Alongside the excitement of the season, students continued working hard and growing in many areas.

In math, both grades have been strengthening their understanding of fractions while building on foundational skills. Fifth grade is wrapping up a unit on fractions and has begun diving back into division with longer divisors. Sixth grade is finishing a unit on adding and subtracting fractions, building on earlier work with fraction theory. Throughout the year, students have also explored number systems, exponents, square roots, order of operations, and continued work with multiplication and division. As we move forward, students will continue to see how math applies to real-world situations and reflects the order of God’s creation.

In English, both grades continued their novel studies, with fifth grade journeying onward through The Phantom Tollbooth and sixth grade digging deeper into Blood on the River. Alongside our reading, we reviewed sentence mechanics and revisited Units 1–5 to help solidify key skills before Christmas break. It has been encouraging to see how much students have grown since the start of the year.

During this season, we also spent time reflecting on gratitude, kindness, and serving others—both in our classroom discussions and through the way students cared for one another. These moments helped reinforce the importance of living out our faith in everyday actions.

One of the highlights of the month was our Christmas program, where students did a wonderful job sharing the Good News of Great Joy. Their hard work and joyful hearts truly shone as they helped point us back to the true reason for the season. We also enjoyed a special class outing to the Boone movie theater to see a Christmas movie, followed by our class Christmas party—a fun and festive way to celebrate together.

As we head into Christmas break, I am grateful for the hard work, growth, and joy these students bring into the classroom each day. I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas filled with peace, rest, and the joy of Christ’s birth.
