November has been a special month in our classroom—a time to reflect, give thanks, and enjoy the many blessings God has poured into our lives. As we move through the second quarter, it has been a joy to watch students learn, grow, and discover new things with grateful hearts. A major highlight was our field trip to Des Moines to see National Geographic: Earth After Dark. After the presentation, we enjoyed lunch at a nearby park and spent the afternoon geocaching—a memorable mix of teamwork, problem-solving, and fun.
In Religion, our studies of the First Article of the Apostles’ Creed fit beautifully with this season of thanksgiving as students learned about God the Father as the Maker of heaven and earth.
In English, both grades began new novels: 5th grade started The Phantom Tollbooth, while 6th grade began Blood on the River. Students have shown great engagement with both stories.
In math, we wrapped up multiplication and division skills and moved into fractions. Fifth graders are learning to compare and order fractions, while sixth graders are adding and subtracting them. We’ll soon incorporate Christmas-themed activities as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ.
We also began our robotics rotations and are learning to code with micro:bits—creating step counters, compasses, sensors, and even simple radio communication. Students are showing strong curiosity as they explore these tools and connect digital thinking with real-world applications.
As students prepare for the Christkindl Market, their creativity and effort have been wonderful to watch. They are working hard on their products, practicing responsibility, and showing great teamwork as they get ready for this special event. We also had several 5th and 6th graders participate in this month’s basketball tournament, where both teams placed 3rd—an accomplishment that reflects their hard work and strong school spirit.
As we look back on November, we are grateful for a joyful start to the second quarter and for the many ways God is working in our classroom. May your family enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving season filled with rest, gratitude, and the love of Christ.
