6th Grade - October 2026
Sixth grade has had an exciting month filled with learning and new experiences! One highlight has been a pen pal project connecting students with community and congregation members. Many are also reading our class novel, The Mighty Miss Malone, about a girl growing up in Michigan during the Great Depression. This shared experience gives students an opportunity to discuss literature across generations while building meaningful relationships.
Students also brought the 1930s to life through a mystery radio show! This creative project allowed them to explore entertainment from that era while practicing storytelling and performance skills. Listen to their radio show at bit.ly/TLS-6thGradeRadio.
In science, students have been studying trees and performing chlorophyll extractions from leaves in various stages. Social studies has focused on Ancient Egypt, exploring its culture and geography, with mummification and hieroglyphics becoming class favorites! These lessons connect with Religion as we study Moses, the Exodus, and God's faithfulness in delivering His people.
In math, students have been learning scientific notation and mental math strategies to calculate more efficiently. We also welcomed Iowa Insurance for a Fund My Future presentation, where students learned about budgeting, credit versus debit, wants versus needs, and saving.
In art, students have been exploring shading techniques to create illusions and dimension in their artwork.
Throughout these experiences, our sixth graders continue to grow in confidence, curiosity, and their understanding of the world around them. We are thankful for the opportunities God gives us to learn together, build friendships, and grow in faith!
