6th Grade - September 2026

Sixth grade has been busy learning, exploring, and growing across all subject areas! In Social Studies, students have been studying Ancient Mesopotamia and the many inventions and achievements that came from this early civilization, including the wheel, the plow, writing, and the base-60 number system that is still used today when we measure time.

In Reading, students have been learning about life during the Great Depression through our novel study of Bud, Not Buddy. We have loved getting to know the characters, following Bud’s journey, and discussing the challenges and experiences people faced during that time. The class was sad when the book came to an end, which is always a wonderful sign of how much they connected with the story.

In Math, students have been working hard on operations with integers, multi-digit multiplication, and exponents. These concepts have challenged students to think carefully, show their work, and continue building strong problem-solving skills. In English, we have been focusing on writing proper complex and compound sentences, identifying subjects and predicates, using conjunctions correctly, and reviewing homophones.

Our Science lessons have focused on strengthening observation skills, identifying trees, and gaining a deeper knowledge of God’s nature and creation. Students are learning to look closely at the world around them and see the care and order God has placed in His creation. In Religion, we have been studying Joseph and God’s plan for his life, while also seeing the connection to Jesus and God’s greater plan of salvation.

In Art, students have been exploring color blending using a variety of mediums, including crayons, colored pencils, and watercolor. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, effort, and growth as they try new techniques and bring their ideas to life!
