1st Grade - January 2024

What a great month we’ve had! We came back after break and dove right into learning. We even got to enjoy a few snow days! :)

In Reading, we’ve been exploring books about animals and how God created them. We’ve learned about vervet monkeys, ants, bees, elephants, spiny mice, and lizards. Each of these animals communicates with its pals in different ways. For example, ants communicate through smell, and bees communicate by dancing.

In Math, we’ve been counting by 5s and 10s up to 120 and working with numbers up to 120.

In Science, we’ve been learning about light. We discussed how the sun rises and sets and why the sun is still out when we go to bed in the summer. We even made a box that was dark inside and tried to see if we could read a sentence or identify a shape—it was too dark to see anything!

For Art, we’ve enjoyed creating pictures of things we do in the winter. We drew ourselves skiing and made winter landscapes with colorful sunsets. We also created our own ice skates and tied them together.

January 21-26 was National Lutheran Schools Week, and we had a blast celebrating how blessed we are to attend a school where we can learn about Jesus. Here’s what our week looked like:

  • On Monday, we each had a secret mission to complete.

  • On Tuesday, we participated in a Goosechase with other Lutheran schools, where we had to complete different activities in a certain amount of time to earn points.

  • On Wednesday, we brought a buddy to lunch and chapel, then played BINGO after chapel.

  • On Thursday, we had a pep rally for the basketball team, who had a tournament on Friday and Saturday.

  • Lastly, on Friday, we got to watch a movie!

What a great week!
