What another amazing month! With the beautiful weather, 1st grade took a nature walk to explore our neighborhood and observe the signs of spring all around us. The sunshine, fresh air, and changing environment gave us the perfect opportunity to connect what we’re learning in the classroom with the world outside.
We’ve been diving into a variety of exciting topics across our subjects. In Math, we’ve been learning about place value, a foundational concept that helps us understand how numbers work. We’re seeing how each digit in a number has its own value depending on its position, which builds a strong base for future math skills.
In Social Studies, we’ve been exploring weather patterns—observing how wind, temperature, and clouds change over time. It’s been fascinating to see how nature is always moving and shifting. These lessons also tie into conversations about how we care for our Earth, reminding us that we can all play a role in taking care of God’s creation.
In Reading, we’re paying close attention to our characters—especially their feelings and how those feelings can shift based on what’s happening around them. We’re noticing how characters, like the weather, can change from sunny to stormy depending on their situations.
Many of the stories we’ve read have focused on the power of wind—how it moves things like seeds, helps shape landforms like yardangs (rocks worn down into shapes by blowing sand), and even plays a role in helping trees grow stronger by encouraging deeper roots. As we learn about these amazing forces in nature, we are reminded that God is the one who created it all. He designed our world with such detail and purpose, and through our learning, we get to discover more about His incredible creation.
