We celebrated our 100th day of learning this year with special activities centered around the number 100. We began the day by entering our classroom through a large number "100" and shared collections of 100 items with our classmates. We enjoyed pairing up with partners to roll dice, add, and race to 100. Did you know it takes about 100 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? We used teamwork to complete 100-piece puzzles. The number 100 is truly special!
In English, we’ve been honing our writing skills by practicing capitalization for proper nouns, days of the week, months of the year, book titles, titles for people, cities, states, countries, and holidays. We also worked on using commas in dates and to separate cities and states. Additionally, we focused on quotation marks to show the exact words someone says, and we identified where quotation marks are used in God’s Word, especially when Jesus is speaking.
In Science, we learned that minerals are the main ingredient in rocks. We live on the hard, rocky outer layer of the Earth called the crust. The next layer down is the mantle, where high temperatures cause rocks to melt, forming magma. At the very center of the Earth is the core. We explored the three types of rocks—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic—and examined samples from each rock group. We also conducted experiments on erosion, volcano eruptions, and earthquake simulations to learn more about how the Earth moves. What a wonderful world God created!
A special thank you to our Room Mothers—Mrs. Elsberry, Mrs. Haupert, and Mrs. Westrum—for planning our Valentine’s Party. Love was definitely in the air!
