2nd Grade - November 2024

Second grade has had another fun month.  We went on a walking field trip to the high school to preview their high school musical.  The students enjoyed the walk and seeing the high school students perform.

We also had another Forest Friday in which the second graders joined up with Mrs. Van Dyke’s kindergarten class and spent the day at Ledges state park where they engaged in outdoor learning.  The students enjoyed exploring God’s beautiful fall scenery at Oak Woods area in the upper Ledges.  They got to celebrate Ledge’s 100th birthday with the park Ranger and a Friend of the Ledges representative.  To celebrate this anniversary the students got to collaboratively plant a new oak tree by the Ledges amphitheater.

In literacy, students have continued to learn about how change impacts people and animals through interactive readings of texts about the changes that happen in the fall.  They were able to explore some of these changes while exploring the Ledges.  The students have also been writing a final summary paragraph about how the changes in weather in fall impact plants and animals.

In math, students have continued to practice their basic math facts and explored different strategies to add 2-digit numbers within 100.  They have been working on understanding place value and what it means to work with tens and ones.  Students get to use hands-on manipulatives to gain a conceptual understanding of how numbers work.
