It has been an interesting month in 3rd grade. We have had several snow days, which
were nice to take off and be with our families, but now we are excited that the weather is
warming up and we can start to have full weeks of school again!
In Language Arts, we are working on our final projects for our book clubs. A few of us have finished and have started revising our projects and are looking forward to starting our new book clubs after Spring Break. We also started learning about pronouns and just finished up proper nouns, commas in a series, and quotation marks. We love playing Mad Libs to test our knowledge of the parts of speech because they make funny stories. We are on week 25 of our spelling lists and the highest spelling group is learning 4th grade spelling words now! We are also learning what our words mean by studying their definitions on Quizlet.
In Math, we are still working on multiplication and division facts. We just finished learning our 5s, 2s, 3s, and 4s division facts. We know what a divisor, dividend, and quotient are, and we love testing our knowledge of the facts on blooket (which is kind of like kahoot) and multiplication and division BINGO.
In Social Studies, we are learning about important Black Americans by listening to and summarizing the book 28 Days on Epic! So far, some of the people we have learned about are Madam C.J. Walker, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman. The students ask lots of good questions about why each person is important and how their stories shaped the America we have today.
In Science, we just touched on different kinds of energy such as light, heat, and electricity. Maverick brought in his snap circuits for us to learn from, which was super cool. We are starting sound energy after state testing and that will end our physical science unit. The next unit we will be doing is Earth Science and this is Mrs. Yox's favorite, because we get to learn about functions of the Earth, but we also get to start learning about space!
We are looking forward to reflecting about the season of Lent and talking more about the importance of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Religion is one of our favorite subjects and the students ask a lot of really good questions about things they don't understand. We love reading stories in the Bible and using our knowledge of the order of the books of the Bible to find the passages on our own.
We are really looking forward to warmer weather, so we can go on some field trips in the spring and so we can be outside more!
