We pray this month's 4th grade classroom news finds you well and, despite the busyness of the season, resting in the Lord's care as we await His arrival.
In Math, we have been solving multi-digit multiplication problems using various methods. Most recently, we’ve been focusing on the traditional method—the way most of our parents and grandparents learned to multiply. We’re also discovering that having our basic math facts memorized makes solving problems faster.
In Science, we’ve been studying the sun, earth, and moon. We’ve learned many interesting facts, especially about the moon: it mirrors (reflects) the sun's light, it has no atmosphere or weather, and its gravity pulls on the oceans, causing high and low tides.
In Art, we’ve been busy crafting this month, preparing Christmas cards and gifts for our parents. We also participated in the Knights of Columbus “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest. Congratulations to our classmate Mykalah for her second-place finish!
In Reading, we finished our novels and shared a variety of creative book report projects. Students presented scenes using video game features, shoebox dioramas, a puppet show, a life-size biography, board games, and more! They all did an excellent job not only with their projects but also speaking in front of the class.
In Language Arts, we continue to work on the mechanics of our language, identifying parts of speech in sentences and paragraphs. We’re also focusing on narrative writing. Your children love to tell stories, and it’s exciting to see how they express their ideas in print. They’re learning that well-written stories involve all the stages of writing: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
In Social Studies, we’ve been learning about the four states in the Southwest region. Students worked in groups to research and create lapbooks that they shared with the class. We’re wrapping up the year by exploring how Christmas is celebrated around the world. It’s amazing to know that people from every tribe, language, and nation celebrate the birth of Christ!
Blessings to you all, and Merry Christmas!
