4th Grade - November 2025

Fourth-grade students kicked off November with an exciting field trip to Des Moines to cheer on the Iowa Wild hockey team at Casey’s Center. Each year, the Iowa Wild hosts a special “School Day” or “Wild About Education” game designed just for students, and our fourth graders loved being part of the energetic crowd. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to experience a live sporting event while learning outside the classroom.

Back at school, fourth graders have been busy using their Chromebooks to dive into research. Students explored the National Geographic Kids website to choose an animal to study, gathering interesting facts, pictures, and videos. Our classroom was transformed into a miniature “animal museum,” buzzing with excitement as students shared discoveries and crafted their own research presentations. Their creativity and attention to detail have been impressive!

The class continues to strengthen their cursive handwriting skills with daily practice. Students are now confidently using cursive to complete their weekly spelling tests, and their pride in this accomplishment shows.

This month’s novel study is A Journey to the New World: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple, Mayflower, 1620, the first book in the Dear America series. Through Remember’s diary entries, students are gaining meaningful insight into life aboard the Mayflower and the challenges early settlers faced. This literature study has paired beautifully with our social studies lessons on early American explorers and settlers, helping students make deeper connections to history.

In math, fourth graders have been working hard to solve multi-step word problems using addition, subtraction, and multiplication. These challenges encourage students to think carefully and apply strategies they’ve practiced throughout the year. They are also continuing daily timed multiplication fact quizzes to build fluency, confidence, and speed.

I am proud of the hard work students bring to each subject area. It has been a joy to see them learning with enthusiasm throughout the month.
