4th Grade - September 2023

Science

By: Mykalah and Lexi

In science, we have been learning about the importance of every organism in an ecosystem and how reintroducing wolves saved Yellowstone! We’ve also explored topics like living and nonliving things, pollination, parts of a flower, amphibians, prairies, and geology.

4th Grade Field Trips

By: Thomas

Our first field trip was to the apple orchard. We had a blast doing things like going inside a big refrigerator, picking apples off the tree, watching apple sorting, and playing "Titanic" on the big bounce pillow. It was so much fun, and we hope to go again!

Our second trip was to the outdoor classroom. We planted prairie grass and enjoyed learning about the prairie. We also learned about amphibians, like frogs—there are so many types! We even had a bird-watching lesson where we saw various birds, trees, and flowers.

Our last field trip was to see the Cat Kid Comic play at Stephens Auditorium. It was so fun, and the characters were awesome!

In religion, we’ve been learning about Jesus and doing memory work. We also play a Bible version of the yes or no question game. Pastor Standfest leads our memory work.

4th Grade Reading

By: Alaina King

We’ve been reading novels in three groups: Because of Winn-Dixie, The One and Only Ivan, and Wonder. We’ve worked hard for 21 days to finish the books and answer all the questions in our red and blue folders.

In 4th grade language arts, we’ve been practicing our cursive handwriting, learning parts of speech, and writing in our journals.

Math

By: Kaden Hanson

We are currently in Unit 4, learning about algebra and solving addition and subtraction equations with an unknown variable. In Units 1, 2, and 3, we learned how to estimate by rounding to the nearest place value and refined our skills in adding and subtracting with regrouping.

Art

By: Mykalah and Lexi

In art, we created foreground, middle ground, and background scenes. We also made pumpkin weavings and seed dispersal projects in the form of dandelions. They turned out beautifully! Everyone worked hard and, even at different speeds, everyone finished their projects.

Social Studies

By: David Henning

We’ve been learning about regions in social studies. First, we studied the Midwest region, where we live. Next, we covered the West region, which we’ve almost finished. Soon, we’ll move on to the Southwest region as part of our study in a circular pattern—next will be the Southeast region, then the Northeast region. It’s going to be a lot of fun!
