5th Grade - September 2026
Fifth grade has had a wonderfully wild start to the school year! August and September have been full of learning, exploring, and settling into new routines together. God continues to bless our class in many ways, and it has been exciting to see the students grow already.
In math, students have been working with place value, estimating, rounding, and decimals. During reading, they have been enjoying their own independent books while also listening to The Call of the Wild as a class read-aloud. Through these stories, students have been discussing story elements, conflict, and how to summarize text.
Our literature and social studies lessons have also connected well together. Students have begun learning about Lewis and Clark, westward expansion, early migration to the American continent, and Native Americans from different regions. In English, students have been focusing on writing strong sentences and studying the two main parts of a sentence: the subject and predicate. They have also gotten used to spelling workbook assignments and multiple spelling tests each week.
Fifth graders have also had a light introduction to Spanish, are singing on Fridays, and a few students have begun band instruction. They have already enjoyed two awesome field trips to Westrum Family Farm and a science field trip with Mrs. Satre, with another trip to Big Island Rendezvous just around the corner.
God continues to bless us in many ways, and I am so excited for the months ahead with this awesome class!
