In the Advent season, we await and prepare for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. The children listened to God’s word in Religion and heard the Christmas story. Angel Gabriel
told Mary, “You are favored by the Lord. The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28) Mary learned
that she would give birth to a son. “And she shall bring forth a son, and you are to give him
the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) The good news was proclaimed after the birth of baby Jesus, “A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
For Reading and Phonics, the children begin their day by writing their sight words with marker on a dry erase board. We have been reviewing our letter sounds and have
started sounding out words in our emergent reader books. The children circle their
sight words in their books. We have heard nursery rhymes and picked out the rhyming
words. The stories we have listened to have been about the birth of Jesus, the nativity, and
the animals that live in cold regions of the world.
For Math, the children have been counting to one hundred out loud with exercise. They have done 10 jumps, 10 arm circles, and/or 10 jumping jacks until they reach 100. We also have been working on writing our numbers to ten. The children have had fun counting objects to match each number.
For Social Studies, the children learned about Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. They saw what the country terrain looks like. For science, the Boone County Naturalist, Ms. Healy came to the classroom to show the children animal coverings from different animals. They saw a great horned owl and the beautiful feathers close up. They also looked at the fur of a coyote, fox, skunk, and raccoon.
For art, the children made a baby Jesus wreath. They also decorated a Christmas tree
with paper ornaments and a star. The children enjoyed painting a gift bag for their parents and making Christmas gifts for them too. The children had their Christmas program on December 13th. They did a wonderful job singing Christmas songs and saying the Bible verses that proclaim the birth of our Savior.
Our class party was on Friday, December 20th. Thanks to our classroom parents for organizing the Christmas party and supplying the games, food, and crafts to make
the party special for the children.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas filled with the peace and the love of Christ!
