The kindergarteners have really done a wonderful job learning our school schedule. One of the most important lessons the kindergarteners have learned is about God’s love, forgiveness, and His promises that he has for us.
We listened to God’s Word and learned about God’s promises in Religion class. One of the Bible stories we listened to was about Noah and the Ark. “When I bring the clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh” (Genesis 9:15). God used his water and His promise to bring new life.
In reading and phonics, we have listened to stories about the fall season, apples, pumpkins, nursery rhymes, and more! We reviewed our letter sounds and play our phonics game on our new ABC carpet donated by PTL. The kids enjoyed taking turns finding the correct letter and sound on the carpet! On Friday mornings, the students from the upper grades read to the kindergartners. The children really enjoy spending time with their “big buddy” in the upper grades and also enjoy having them sit by them in chapel too.
In math, we have worked with different patterns that include AB and ABC. They have practiced writing their numbers up to twenty. We also count daily to one hundred and count backwards from the number 10 to the number 0. The children have been working hard with all the counting and number identification!
In social studies, we have joined the afternoon preschool class on Fridays for our “Fun Fridays.” We have learned about three different countries, Mexico, France, and China and where they are located on the globe. We also practiced counting to twenty for each of those countries languages.
For science, we are learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin.
In art, the children made fall tree pictures from tissue paper. They crumpled yellow, green and red tissue paper into a ball and then glued it onto a tree. They also had fun painting with watercolor paints.
For our field trip, we went to Deals Apple Orchard in Jefferson. We went with the afternoon preschool class and went on a hayride, picked apples, jumped on a big bouncy pillow, and went down a tube slide. We ended the field trip by eating a snack and picking a pumpkin for our classroom!
From October 9 through October 12, the teachers traveled down to St. Louis and attended the LEA Conference. We came back with many new ideas for the classroom and enjoyed each other's company!
Over these last couple of weeks, our class has been deeply blessed by our Lord. “O give thanks unto the Lord, for his mercies endure forever.” Psalm 136:1.
We are thankful for all of our many blessings here at Trinity Lutheran Church and School!
