In our first-grade classroom, we have been busy exploring God’s wonderful world through science, reading, math, and social studies! In science, we are learning all about plants—how they grow, what they need to live, and how God created them for us to enjoy and use. We’ve been observing plants up close and discovering the amazing ways seeds sprout and change over time.

In social studies, we’ve begun learning about geography. We’re exploring maps and globes to understand where we live and how God made our world full of many different places and people. In math, we’ve been working hard on understanding place value, and now we’re starting subtraction. Students are using hands-on activities and number models to help them make sense of how numbers work together.

In reading, we just finished learning about how books can change people’s lives, and now we’re beginning a new unit all about animals. We’re discovering how authors use stories and information to teach us about God’s creatures. We also had a wonderful time on our field trip to the Civic Center to see Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The students loved seeing a favorite story come to life on stage—it was a fun and memorable experience for everyone!
