This month, our hearts and minds were focused on the incredible love of Jesus during Passion Week. We began by walking through His triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, where the crowds shouted, “Hosanna!” and welcomed Him as King. From there, we journeyed through the story of His betrayal, His death on the cross for the sins of the world, and His powerful resurrection. It was a time of deep reflection and joy as we remembered that Jesus didn’t stay in the grave—He rose again! Because of His victory, we can live with hope and courage. "He is not here; He has risen, just as He said" (Matthew 28:6). What a beautiful reminder that we have victory in Christ!
In English class, we learned how to use capital letters and quotation marks in our writing. We put these new skills into action by writing and presenting our very own “How-To” demonstrations. Students got creative and shared fun activities like how to play the piano, make fruit dip, bake s’more brownies, create pepperoni roses, and craft pencil toppers. Others taught us how to hunt for Easter eggs, put on catcher’s equipment, jump rope, make bird nests, braid hair, and microwave the perfect s’more. Everyone did a great job sharing and practicing public speaking—a wonderful life skill that will benefit them for years to come!
We also had the chance to go on some amazing adventures. We watched the play Underneath a Magical Moon, which sparked our imaginations, and we went rock climbing at Climb Iowa, where we learned to face fears and try something new. Another highlight this month was interviewing members of our community. Students met with a wide variety of professionals, including a physical therapist, pharmacist, registered nurse, equestrian riding instructor, charcuterie creator, Boone County naturalist, project manager, doctor of chiropractic medicine, science teacher/coach, vocal instructor, and personal trainer. These interviews helped students build confidence, ask thoughtful questions, and explore the many ways God uses people’s gifts to serve others.
One of the most exciting experiences this month was hatching chicks! We recorded the development of the chicks every day for 21 days, learning about the life God creates and sustains. We were thrilled to welcome 11 fluffy chicks into our classroom. Holding them and watching them grow brought so much joy and wonder to us all.
As we continue to learn and grow, we are reminded that God is always with us—helping us step outside our comfort zones, try new things, and celebrate the gifts He’s given us. We are thankful for His love and the many ways He is working in our classroom.
