2nd Grade - November 2023

Each day, we eagerly come to school excited and ready to learn. It’s fun to collaborate, work together, and share what we’ve learned with others.

We had a lot of fun reading and writing book reports. We shared our reports with the class, discussing the setting, main characters, story problem, solution, and summary. We also added drawings to enhance our presentations. We were so proud to share our book reports with our classmates and couldn’t wait to read the books our friends reported on.

This past month seemed to be filled with stories. We worked together to create our own story called The Hunter’s Hidden Cabin. It was a true collaboration of ideas, with plenty of laughs during the creative writing process. Adding our own illustrations made this class book something we will always cherish. After the book was published, we recorded a paper slideshow and shared our class story with family, friends, and other classes.

In English, we learned about helping verbs (or auxiliary verbs). We discovered that helping verbs are placed in front of the main verb in a sentence. We practiced using helping verbs with words like run, come, gone, seen, done, and given.

We also had fun reading fables, which have a moral and teach a lesson. Some of them were familiar, like The Tortoise and the Hare and The Lion and the Mouse. Others, like The Fly and the Wagon, were new to us.

In Art, we created fall evening sunsets using crayon resist and watercolors. These crisp fall evening sunsets remind us of how God prepares the earth for a winter sleep.
