Spring has arrived in our 4th grade classroom, and with it comes a renewed sense of energy and excitement! The sunshine and warmer days have brought a noticeable boost in enthusiasm, and we are thrilled to share some of the wonderful things we’ve been learning and exploring across our subjects.
In literacy, we’ve embarked on an engaging journey through the historical fiction novel Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen. This captivating story has not only captured our imaginations but also opened the door to meaningful discussions about the motivations behind the patriots’ fight for independence from Britain. Students are diving deep into the text, analyzing character choices, understanding cause and effect, and making connections to the historical events of the American Revolution. It’s been exciting to see how this book brings history to life and encourages students to think critically.
In math, we’ve been strengthening our understanding of fractions, with a focus on adding, subtracting, and multiplying them. Students are growing in confidence as they apply what they’ve learned to solve increasingly complex problems. We’ve also been working with line plots and exploring how to find equivalence in units of measure. These concepts are not only helping students improve their mathematical thinking, but also allowing them to see how math is used in real-world situations. Their creativity and determination have really shone through during these lessons.
In social studies, we are exploring the diverse regions of America and gaining a better understanding of the unique characteristics that make each region special. A big part of this unit has been memorizing the 50 states and their capitals—a challenge that the students have taken on with enthusiasm and pride! It’s been fun to see them encourage one another, use songs and games to study, and take ownership of this exciting milestone in their learning.
As we look ahead to April, we’re excited about the continued growth and learning happening each day. The students are making wonderful progress both academically and personally, and it’s a joy to see their curiosity and confidence grow.
Thank you for your continued support as we journey through this spring season of learning together!
