The 7th and 8th graders have been busy diving into a variety of learning activities this fall. In math, students have been working in pre-algebra and algebra, focusing on integer operations, solving multi-step equations, and sequencing. In art, they first created self-portraits and are now studying the work of Chicago artist John Behnke, using his style as inspiration for their own surrealistic cityscapes.
We are also excited to announce this year’s Student Council officers, who are ready to serve our school:
President: Olivia Stahr
Vice President: Leo Cartagena
Treasurer: Will Kohnke
Secretary: Carlie Van Dyke
Event Coordinator: Sully Sheffler
These student leaders are already bringing energy and ideas to the year, and we look forward to seeing the ways they will positively impact our school community.
Our school continues to be blessed by the support of our congregation, and there are many ways to lend a hand throughout the year:
Sponsor a student for lunch ($70/month or $64/month for reduced lunch) to help offset the cost of free and reduced lunches.
Help out at athletic events such as games or tournaments.
Serve as a memory work partner by assisting a student with their assigned Bible verses.
Your involvement and prayers make a lasting difference in the lives of our students and school.
Finally, our teachers have also been learning. Thanks to a grant from the Iowa STEM Council and the Iowa Computer Science Incentive Fund, they have been training on micro:bits and exploring new ways to enhance student learning through technology. We look forward to sharing pictures of this professional growth in the next newsletter.
