January has been another fun month in Kindergarten! We focused on snow in both Art and Science. We learned how snow forms and that it always has 6 sides, designed our own snowflakes, cut snowflakes out of coffee filters, and used puffy snow paint. We’ve also loved playing in the snow during recess!
Kindergarteners start memory work in the 2nd semester, so we’re working hard on our first verses.
We’ve learned the sounds of all the letters in the alphabet! We’re now focusing on sounding out words and learning sight words. We’ve also been practicing using capital letters only at the beginning of sentences and for names—not in the middle of sentences or words.
In Math, we’re working on teen numbers and beyond. We’ve been practicing counting and writing them, as well as learning about tally marks, place value, and addition.
Our calendar time each morning reinforces both math and literacy skills. For math, we work on counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s, and practice patterns. For literacy, we focus on spelling the names of months and days, using capital letters only at the beginning.
It was great seeing so many of you at our NLSW open house and choir concert! We’re really looking forward to a fun week celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week! I feel so blessed to work in a Christian environment and share the love of Jesus with my students every day.
