Our Kindergarten class is off to a fantastic start with nine eager learners this year. The children have been working hard these first few weeks—learning new rules and routines, building stamina for activities, and diving into both academics and faith. In religion, we studied the greatest commandment and the Ten Commandments, which led to wonderful conversations about rules and manners.
On the first day of school, we read How Full Is Your Bucket for Kids and talked about filling others’ “buckets” with kind words and actions. Our class bucket gets pom poms each time someone is kind, and when it’s full, we’ll celebrate with a party!
In literacy, students have learned seven letter sounds, practiced the difference between letters, words, and sentences, and have been busy writing in journals, handwriting books, and even creating their own stories. In math, we’ve focused on sorting, categorizing, patterns, shapes, and our daily calendar work—counting days of school, spelling the month, and writing the date to reinforce literacy and math skills.
Students have also been active in art (coloring, gluing, cutting, painting), science (lemon volcanoes and apples), and Walking Wednesdays, where we practice walking in line and observing God’s creation. We also enjoy Friendzy lessons on biblical friendship, PE with Mr. Kruse, and singing many God-honoring songs in choir with Mrs. Sprengeler.
These first weeks in Kindergarten have been filled with fun, learning, and growth. I look forward to seeing all the ways our kindergarteners continue to grow academically, spiritually, and in character this year.
