Happy Fall, One & All! It is a blessing to be back in school and learning together! It is exciting to work with our preschool children and their families. We have learned how to be kind and safe at school and at home. We have built our classroom foundation on showing God’s love and keeping everyone safe - our two guiding principles. We were amazed by how God created everything! We were awed at how God saved Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark. We enjoyed painting rainbow pictures to remind us of God’s promise. We learned how Jesus can be our best friend and what it means to be a kind and safe friend. It was truly amazing to hear all the ways the children shared to be kind and safe at home and school!
We spent our first month of school learning “All About Me and My School,” helping us get to know each other and build friendships, creating our school family. We have graphed many attributes as we learned about each other, comparing our ages, Cy-Hawk preferences, favorite colors, eye colors, and the first letters of our names, among others. We count, compare, graph, measure, and weigh items as we develop our math literacy skills and an understanding of the math and science tools used in school.
We love books, songs, and fingerplays; they help us learn about God’s word, school, friendships, rhyming, the joy of reading, and SO MUCH more! We are huge fans of the Too Much Glue, 7 Days of Creation, Silly Sally, Pete the Cat books, and The Pigeon books. We practice retelling stories, book handling, and early reading literacy skills. We have blasted off from our Launchpad to literacy on our Promethean board, and we are excited to learn how to build reading skills as we read images and letters from left to right.
We have focused on color naming, sorting, counting, and letter identification as we have become classroom authors together. We enjoy creating class (even some individual) books, giving notes of love and encouragement, and caring for one another through words and actions. They truly know God’s love is what we seek to share with each other!
We wrapped up September, celebrating “Together, as One” through Friendzy lessons. We discovered our families can come in many different sizes, but they all love us just as Jesus loves us. We are happiest when we let Jesus shine through our words, works, and even our play.
We look forward to the changes of fall and seeing how we grow closer in faith and friendship!
